Best hypnosis apps in 2026: 11 apps tested and compared
We installed every major hypnosis app on an iPhone, ran sessions across sleep, anxiety, weight loss and habits, and compared what you actually get.
The hypnosis app market in 2026 has more options than ever, which makes choosing harder. Some apps are built by clinical researchers, others by meditation studios, and a few now use AI to write sessions on the spot. Prices range from free to $15 a month, and the free tiers vary from nothing to hundreds of sessions.
We tested 11 apps and organized them by what they do best. This is not a ranking. The best app for you depends on whether you want clinical research behind every script, a large free library, AI personalization, or a specialist tool for a specific condition like IBS.

Reveri
Reveri was created by Dr. David Spiegel, a Stanford psychiatrist who has studied hypnosis for over 40 years. The app's sessions are based on clinical protocols, and a Nature-published trial with over 80,000 participants found that its self-hypnosis exercises reduced stress. It has the strongest research backing of any app on this list.
Strengths
- Backed by published clinical research from Stanford, including a large-scale trial
- Sessions designed by a recognized expert in clinical hypnosis with decades of experience
Weakness
The most expensive general hypnosis app at $25/month ($99.99/year). No permanent free tier: after the 7-day trial everything is locked. The app focuses on a smaller set of conditions rather than a broad library.
HypnoBox
HypnoBox has been around since 2014 and is one of the highest-rated hypnosis apps at 4.7 stars with over 1,200 ratings. Verywell Mind named it "Best Hypnosis App". Its standout feature is a modular session builder: you assemble a session from 700+ suggestion modules, choosing your voice, background sounds, induction style, deepening technique and goal. You can also record your own suggestions, and sessions work offline.
Strengths
- Modular session builder with 700+ suggestion modules gives more control than any other app
- Offline support and the ability to record your own suggestions
Weakness
Only 5 free sessions. At $14.99/month it is one of the more expensive apps. The modular builder is powerful but has a learning curve compared to simpler apps.
Hypnova
Hypnova takes a different approach from every other app on this list. Its library of 300+ sessions across 12 categories is free forever, no subscription needed. The paid feature is an AI that writes a custom session based on a short chat about your goal, then narrates it in a studio voice over a soundscape you choose. You get 60 free credits at signup to try the AI feature.
Disclosure: this article is published on Hypnova's blog. We have tried to be straightforward about where Hypnova fits and where other apps are the better choice.
Strengths
- AI-written sessions personalized to your specific situation, not a generic script with your name inserted
Weakness
The app is newer and has only 12 ratings on the App Store (all 5 stars, but a small sample). It is iOS-only as of September 2026, with no Android or web version yet. And because the AI sessions are a new category, there is no published clinical research on Hypnova specifically.
Hypnozio
Hypnozio has the largest user base of any hypnosis-specific app, with over 12,200 App Store ratings and availability in 18 languages. It structures content into multi-day programs around specific goals like sleep, confidence and weight loss, similar to how Headspace structures meditation courses.
Strengths
- Largest App Store rating count in the category, suggesting a large active user base
- Goal-based programs give structure rather than one-off sessions, available in 18 languages
Weakness
The free trial is only 3 days, then everything is locked. Search results for "Hypnozio" include queries like "cancel subscription" and "Hypnozio scam", which suggests some users find the paywall aggressive or the trial too short to evaluate.
Harmony Hypnosis
Harmony has been in the App Store since 2009, making it the oldest app on this list. It has 4,015 ratings at 4.8 stars, the highest rating here. Created by award-winning hypnotherapist Darren Marks, the app uses a dual-vocal technique that delivers different suggestions through left and right headphones simultaneously, plus brainwave entrainment with rhythmic pulses. It has a free membership tier and a $99.99 lifetime purchase option.
Strengths
- Longest track record in the App Store (since 2009) and the highest rating at 4.8 stars
- Unique dual-vocal delivery and brainwave entrainment technique, plus a one-time lifetime purchase instead of recurring subscription
Weakness
iOS only, no Android. No AI features. The recordings are traditional and do not adapt to individual users.
KURE
KURE focuses on habit rewiring through guided hypnosis. It targets specific loops like cravings, emotional eating, procrastination and smoking. It has 9,390 ratings at 4.6 stars and ranks 3rd in App Store searches for "hypnosis". The app uses structured programs rather than standalone sessions.
Strengths
- Focused specifically on habit-rewiring rather than general wellness, with structured programs
- Large user base with over 9,300 ratings across iOS and Android
Weakness
Pricing is not straightforward. The app shows different promotional offers to different users, making it hard to know the real cost upfront. Some user reviews on Trustpilot flag billing issues and difficulty canceling.
Hypnosis with Joseph Clough
Joseph Clough is a UK-based hypnotherapist, NLP practitioner and Hay House author whose app has 2,619 ratings at 4.7 stars and dominates App Store keyword rankings with 331 top-10 keywords. The free tier is unusually generous: 400+ hours of free hypnosis and coaching audio. Paid content is available at $15.99/month or a $27.99 one-time unlock.
Strengths
- 400+ hours of free content, the most generous free tier by hours for traditional recordings
- One-time $27.99 unlock option for users who dislike subscriptions
Weakness
Everything is from a single practitioner. If Clough's voice or NLP style does not resonate with you, there is no alternative within the app. With 2,000+ recordings the quality varies.
Subconsciously
Subconsciously is based on the method of Aaron Surtees, a London hypnotherapist with 20+ years of experience (featured on BBC, Forbes and The Guardian). The app aims to replicate the in-person clinical session experience. It has 113 ratings at 4.9 stars, the highest per- rating score on this list, though from a small sample.
Strengths
- Highest per-rating score (4.9) and strong practitioner credentials (BBC, Forbes, Guardian)
- Designed to mirror face-to-face clinical hypnotherapy sessions
Weakness
Small user base (113 ratings). The website was returning errors during our testing period, which does not inspire confidence in the infrastructure. Limited track record compared to established apps.
InTheMoment
InTheMoment launched in October 2025 and has grown quickly, reaching 170 Google-ranked keywords in under a year. It offers two free AI hypnosis sessions per day (up to 20 minutes each), with no credit card required. The app chats with you before each session to understand your current context, then generates a unique session. Pro plans start at $7.99/month. Available on iOS, Android and web.
Strengths
- Two free AI sessions per day without a credit card or subscription
- Context-aware generation: describes where you are and what you need, and the session adapts
Weakness
Only 50 ratings on the App Store so far. No pre-made library to fall back on, so if the AI output does not work for you, there is less to explore. Being under a year old, there is limited user feedback to evaluate long-term value.
Hypnothera
Hypnothera frames itself as a "mental rehearsal" tool rather than a traditional hypnosis app. You describe a specific upcoming situation (an interview, a presentation, a difficult conversation) and the app generates a hypnotherapy session for it. The free tier gives 25 starter credits plus 15 weekly credits, with free sessions capped at 5 minutes. Paid plans start at $14.99/month. It has 14 ratings at 3.5 stars.
Strengths
- Unique performance-rehearsal positioning fills a gap no other app targets
- Script transparency: you can read and edit the AI-generated script before generating audio
Weakness
Lowest App Store rating on this list at 3.5 stars with only 14 ratings. The credit-based pricing can be expensive for heavy users ($14.99 to $29.99/month depending on tier).
Nerva
Nerva is a specialist: it does gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS. Its content is designed by Dr. Simone Peters, a psychophysiologist at Monash University. The structured 6-week program with daily 15-minute sessions is backed by 17 published studies, and a peer-reviewed trial found that 81% of users saw significant symptom improvement. It is recommended in clinical guidelines from ACG, AGA and others. It has 14,785 ratings at 4.7 stars, the most ratings of any app on this list. The price is $199 per year with a 7-day trial.
Strengths
- Strongest clinical evidence: 17 published studies, recommended in 4 clinical guidelines, 81% improvement rate in a peer-reviewed trial
- Most-rated app on this list (14,700+) with an excellent score (4.7), showing proven product-market fit
Weakness
Not useful for anything other than IBS and gut health. Expensive at $199/year with no monthly option (though HSA/FSA eligible). If your goal is sleep, anxiety or habits, this is not your app.
Verdict: which app for which goal
Sleep
Start with Hypnova for its free sleep sessions, then try HypnoBox or Harmony if you want more variety. Reveri has a clinically designed sleep program if you want research backing.
Anxiety and stress
Reveri has the strongest evidence for stress reduction. Hypnova's free library includes anxiety sessions if you want to explore without a subscription.
Weight loss
Hypnozio has structured weight-loss programs. Reveri has a focused program as well. Keep in mind that clinical evidence for hypnosis as a standalone weight-loss tool is limited (we covered this in our review of the trial data).
Habits (smoking, procrastination, confidence)
Hypnova's AI feature stands out here because you describe your specific habit and get a session written for it, rather than choosing from a generic list. Joseph Clough's one-time-purchase packs are a budget alternative.
IBS
Nerva, no contest. It is the only app built specifically for gut-directed hypnotherapy with clinical guidelines behind it.
Budget
Hypnova for the largest free library (300+ sessions). Joseph Clough for 400+ hours of free recordings plus a $27.99 one-time unlock. InTheMoment for two free AI sessions per day. Harmony offers a $99.99 lifetime purchase with no recurring fees.
